History of the Club:
Middlesex University Real Tennis Club, known originally as the Burroughs Club, was opened 16th January 2000. The Court was gifted to the University by The Luck-Hille Foundation. We are a Real Tennis Club with a strong community which boasts a diverse membership featuring players from the local area, university staff and students. The club is welcoming and affordable whilst also being the best court in North London.
About the Game:
Real Tennis is the ancestor to modern games such as Lawn Tennis, Padel and Squash played in an enclosed, asymmetrical court with sloping roofs, walls, and openings (galleries) that are all in play, requiring strategy and precision with wooden racquets and handmade balls. The game continues to thrive in the modern era, with the top players in the world continuing to compete for the major tournaments – and the longest contested World Championship in history.
Tournaments & Matchplay:
MURTC proudly hosts Club, National and International tournaments, such as the Under 24 British Open and the Real 10 (which features the top players in the world). Members can get involved in a variety of level and handicapped tournaments for both singles and doubles which run throughout the season. Around the tournaments, the Pro Team also match up opponents for you any time that you can play – so you will never be without a match to look forward to!
